A Delicate Sight uses darkness, closed books, unseen pictures and partially heard songs to explore the promise of the imagination. Initially a group of artists were asked to do darkness residences, in which they spent a period of time in complete blackout. From their experience they generated drawings, texts and films inspired by their time in the dark. A Delicate Sight showcases their work and also invites you to explore your own world of heightened senses.
A Delicate Sight
Presented below are Sam Winston's original darkness drawings and their sighted facsimiles. Winston spent a month living and drawing in blackout. Over 672 hours he created 3 large scale drawings. Whilst each drawing was being made, he recorded notes into a dictaphone about what he was drawing. Once finished, the work was sealed unseen by Winston. Later that year he attempted to recreate what he imagined he had drawn whilst in the dark. Here are both original darkness drawings and their sighted facsimiles.
